‘BOOK CLUB: A COMEDY SHOW’ at Union Hall (Oct. 14, 8 p.m.). This regular series has all the fun parts of being in a book club without the work of actually reading a book. This week, Colin Stokes and Blythe Roberson, whose names you may recognize from their work in The Onion and The New Yorker, welcome the comedians Conner O’Malley, Catherine Cohen and Saurin Choksi to discuss the latest selection, “Wuthering Heights.”

‘ELECTORAL DYSFUNCTION’ at Peoples’ Improv Theater (Oct. 14, 7 p.m.). This is a show that takes the latest headlines, addressing, say, global warming and gun control, and tackles them head-on — with comedy. In the first half, participants from different sides of the political spectrum discuss their views on current events, and the second half is a round of improv based on the news, allowing for a sort of catharsis through comedy.

‘HARRIET’ at Littlefield (Oct. 18, 8 p.m.). This show was started by the friends and comedians Farah Brook and Blair Socci in the East Village in 2014. They named it after Ms. Brook’s grandmother from Long Island, who, they write, “makes them laugh.” In honor of Harriet, the two regularly invite hilarious comedians and performers to the Littlefield stage. This time, Todd Barry, Wyatt Cenac, Josh Gondelman and Cocoon Central Dance Team are on the bill.

‘JEAN AND JOHN’ at the Bell House (Oct. 18, 8 p.m.). This continuing variety show, hosted by the performer Jean Grae and the comedian John Hodgman, regularly sells out. The reason? It could be the regular surprise guest. Perhaps it’s the music. It could also be the carnival wheel they spin to decide topics of conversation, which in the past have included “What did you dream last night?” and “Lin-Manuel Miranda.”

‘NIGHT TRAIN WITH WYATT CENAC’ at Littlefield (Oct. 16, 8 p.m.). It’s no accident that this evening is one of the best-known staples of New York’s bustling and vibrant comedy scene. The comic and actor Wyatt Cenac runs the show, with an ever-changing lineup of performers. This week features Alzo Slade, Kenny DeForest, D. C. Benny, Aparna Nancherla, Ophira Eisenberg and others.

‘SASHEER ZAMATA PARTY TIME!’ at the Bell House (Oct. 15, 8 p.m.). Every so often, the S.N.L. alumna Sasheer Zamata gathers some of her funny friends for a night of stand-up. The woman is well connected: David Cross, Ilana Glazer, Michelle Wolf and even Ms. Zamata’s mom have all stopped by in past installments. Who will turn up next? Find out.
