Schimmel Center to Host a Two-Day Toast to the Bottom Line

Paul Shaffer will host a two-night tribute to the Bottom Line, which closed in 2004 after three decades as a landmark Greenwich Village nightclub, as part of the Schimmel Center’s 2017-2018 season.

The tribute, on Oct. 13 and 14, will feature two nights of nostalgia for a different era in New York’s night life. Musicians including David Bromberg, David Johansen, Christine Lavin, Darlene Love, Terre Roche and Jimmy Vivino will swap stories and perform in celebration of the club that shaped many of their careers.

Mr. Shaffer, who spent 30 years as keyboardist, bandleader and partner to David Letterman on NBC’s “Late Night” and CBS’s “Late Show,” will interview the performing artists and share his own stories from the club’s history. A presentation featuring videos and photos will also air.

The schedule for the Schimmel, in Lower Manhattan, also features dance programming from around the globe. The Panta Rei Dance Theater, of Norway, is to have its United States debut in February, performing “Lullaby,” with music by Sverre Indris Joner. The State Ballet Theater of Russia will put on The Nutcracker in December. And Niño de Elche, an experimental flamenco artist, is to perform his latest piece in March.

There’s magic in the mix, too: Jon Stetson, of the CBS show “The Mentalist,” will appear in December, and the comedian Judy Gold and the illusionist Elliot Zimet are to perform a joint magic-comedy show in March.
