A dysfunctional Noah Baumbach family comes to Netflix. And Spike throws a Friday the 13th marathon ending with Stephen King’s killer clown.

THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES (NEW AND SELECTED) on Netflix. Few directors are better at carving into familial dysfunction than Noah Baumbach, whose “The Squid and the Whale” and “Margot at the Wedding” were searing portraits of fraying homes. His latest is “The Meyerowitz Stories,” in which the patriarch, Harold (Dustin Hoffman), seethes with resentment at his children (Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler and Elizabeth Marvel), his wife (Emma Thompson), hapless MoMA employees and everyone in between. “Mr. Baumbach has achieved a near-perfect balance between engagement and discomfort,” wrote Glenn Kenny in his review for The New York Times.
MINDHUNTER on Netflix. David Fincher once again wades into serial killer territory with “Mindhunter,” about two FBI agents from 1977 (Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany) who interview murderers to understand how they think. “‘Mindhunter’ thus far is more interested in the process of getting inside skulls than the process of removing them,” James Poniewozik wrote in his Times review.

STEPHEN KING’S IT (1990) 8 p.m. on Spike. It’s been 27 years since Mr. King’s killer clown first popped out of a grate in Derry, Maine, dragging unsuspecting children into the gutter. As played this year by Bill Skarsgard, Pennywise inflicted enormous damage on the box office — but don’t sleep on the original portrayal in this two-part mini-series, courtesy of a lip-smacking Tim Curry. You can fulfill your craven Friday the 13th desires without changing the channel: Spike boasts an all-day horror marathon that also includes “Poltergeist” (10 a.m.) and “The Shining” (4:30).

M.L.B. PLAYOFFS 8 p.m. on FS1. Playing against type and history, the New York Yankees have assumed the role of underdog all year — and never more so than when they fell into a 2-0 deficit against the red-hot Cleveland Indians last week. But they crawled back, on the arms of their pitchers and the power of their young shortstop, Didi Gregorius. They advance to the American League Championship Series, where they face the Houston Astros and their ace Dallas Keuchel on Friday.
GRAMMY SALUTE TO MUSIC LEGENDS 9 p.m. on PBS (check local listings). The Grammys’ second concert honoring the recipients of special merit awards was recorded in July at New York’s Beacon Theater, and paid tribute to Nina Simone, Sly Stone, the Velvet Underground and others.

ROOM 104 11:30 p.m. on HBO. Each episode of this anthology drama follows a different set of patrons in the eponymous motel room, from cult leaders to ghost stories to interpretive dance. On Friday, the season closes with an octogenarian couple (Philip Baker Hall and Ellen Geer) returning to the room to relive their first night together.
