Former FBI Director James Comey testifies before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill June 8, 2017 in Washington, DC.
James Comey used a personal Gmail account to conduct FBI business on numerous occasions when he was director of the bureau, the Justice Department’s internal watchdog revealed Thursday.
Comey’s frequent use of a personal email account for unclassified FBI business was “inconsistent with” the policy statement for email use by the Justice Department, according to the report by the Office of the Inspector General.
Comey was criticized in the report for usurping the power of the attorney general in his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server for State Department business.
