What’s on TV Saturday: Black Sabbath’s Final Performance and ‘Arrival’

Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, sings swan songs on Showtime. And Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi film makes a timely case for good communication.

BLACK SABBATH: THE END OF THE END (2017) 9 p.m. on Showtime. Tongue-in-cheek, bat-in-mouth goth charm makes the rock band Black Sabbath, led by Ozzy Osbourne, a fitting soundtrack choice for Halloween weekend. The band, which formed in 1968 and whose best-known tracks include “Iron Man,” “Paranoid” and “War Pigs,” played its final show in its native Birmingham, England, in February. The group members played amid stacks of amplifiers that sonically and visually resurrected an era of big rock. “The End of the End” presents that performance, along with backstage footage and interviews.

I’M WITH THE BANNED (2017) 5 p.m. on Viceland. There’s a moment early on in this new documentary, produced by Spotify, where the camera trails the rapper Pusha T as he enters a studio. On back of his jacket are the words “Human Made,” written in bold. An animated pink circle briefly forms over the word “human.” The film brings together six musicians from six of the countries included in the Trump administration’s travel restrictions, following them as they collaborate with American musicians including the singer K.Flay, the jazz organist Dr. Lonnie Smith and Pusha T. If the film has a thesis, one word of it can surely be found on the back of that jacket.

GHOST ADVENTURES: HAUNTINGS OF VICKSBURG 9 p.m. on the Travel Channel. This timely show follows the hosts Zak Bagans and Aaron Goodwin as they visit and trace the history of “haunted” sites. A pair of Halloween episodes will center on Mr. Bagans’s new haunted-object museum in Las Vegas.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE 11:30 p.m. on NBC. In an animated feature, “The David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special,” Tom Hanks reprises his role as a frustratingly enigmatic dancing man in a pumpkin-patterned suit. The special will also feature the voice of Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”).

ARRIVAL (2016) iTunes, Amazon and Hulu. In this Denis Villeneuve film, a linguist played by Amy Adams is enlisted to communicate with an alien species that has traveled here, working with a physicist played by Jeremy Renner. In a review for The New York Times, Manohla Dargis wrote that Mr. Villeneuve’s sci-fi film “reminds you again that there’s more to this genre than heavy artillery.” A related reminder offered by the film: Good communication might save the planet.

SPLIT (2017) iTunes, Amazon and HBO. James McAvoy stars as a kidnapper in M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller. “It’s not exactly a Choose Your Own Adventure,” A. O. Scott wrote in his review for The Times, “but you can opt either for the pleasure of surprise at the end or for the satisfaction of working out the puzzle as you go along.”
