Late-Night Summer Offerings Include ‘Firestarter’ and ‘Crash’

Concerts in the park? Check. Days at the beach? Absolutely. But any must-do list of summer-in-the-city activities should also include a midnight movie or two, with the late-screening crowd spilling out onto the steamy streets afterward.

Happily, several theaters offer films into the wee hours. In particular, Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25 and 26, will be showing the zombie satire “Fido,” and, in this season of Stephen King movies, “Firestarter,” with a post-“E.T.” Drew Barrymore as the child it’s best not to anger. And the lineup at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village will include “Crash,” David Cronenberg’s notorious 1997 adaptation of the J. G. Ballard novel that follows James Spader into a group of sexual fetishists who are partial to car wrecks. Also, as part of “To Hell and Outback,” IFC’s series of Australian horror films, “Rogue” features a giant crocodile feasting on stranded tourists. As Paul Hogan might say, that’s a croc flick.
